A.C.E Base 2.0

Opened in Spring 2023 after a 6 month renovation project.

A warm welcoming atmosphere is guaranteed!

Rebuilt almost from scratch in 2022, the 10 acre woodland site is made almost entirely from recycled materials and is quite unique.

eOur new range building looks out over Portree – Glengrasco – and on the horizon are the hills of Harris. There is always a fire going on site, and all of the target sports have a purpose built 250m2 shelter, made to a higher standard than the old Base so there is no compromise on comfort. Outdoor activities with an indoor retreat not far away, best of both worlds. The Isle of Skye can throw some extreme weather curve balls but we have you covered.

A.C.E Base 2.0 is very much animal friendly, with three dogs on-site! One of them, Blaze the Dog Dectective, is even quite famous! Not to mention the classic Scottish wildlife all around us, regular sightings of eagles and deer and the occasional rarer pine marten in and around the area.

With Solar panels, a Micro Hydro Scheme and a wind turbine all of the power used on site is renewable and harnesses all of the world famous Isle of Skye weather. The newly improved range complex is an entirely off grid facility.

We have more exciting off grid projects in the pipeline too

See you on site soon!

Why a new base?

I’ve been asked a lot lately: “Why rebuild A.C.E Base?” Trust me, I’ve asked myself that too, especially on those stormy, challenging days during our lengthy winter project. From 2016 to 2022, A.C.E Base 1.0 was functional and rustic, operating fully off-grid with archery, axe throwing, and shooting experiences. We made plenty of people happy, but the facilities were bare-bones—shipping containers, portacabins, and no mains electricity or water. Over time, it became clear that we needed a fresh start, especially after some environmental concerns from previous activities like paintball and airsoft.

The decision to rebuild wasn’t just about upgrading for comfort but about aligning our business with the values of sustainability, conservation, and thoughtful design. A.C.E Base 2.0 would continue our off-grid ethos but with improvements, like better drainage and weatherproof structures. We also wanted to protect the natural beauty of the 10-acre woodland site, which is teeming with wildlife. Shifting away from activities like paintball, which weren’t in harmony with the environment, was a step in the right direction.

The design process was a collaborative effort, starting as sketches on napkins and evolving through several iterations. At one point, I even imagined a huge indoor facility, but the pandemic changed that vision. We realized that embracing the outdoors was key, not just for the business but for the people coming here to experience Skye. Eventually, we settled on a design that’s simple yet effective, still keeping that upcycled, handmade character that has always been part of A.C.E’s charm.

By Spring 2023, after months of hard work, the new A.C.E Base 2.0 was ready. It’s bigger, sturdier, and built with sustainability at its core—powered by renewable energy and protected from Skye’s notoriously wild weather. With a supportive team, some great coffee, and a lot of perseverance, we’ve created something we’re truly proud of. We’re excited to welcome visitors back for new adventures in a space that reflects our love for the outdoors and our commitment to preserving it.
